General Akali remains is still in the Army Hospital

Chief of Administration, Army Headquarters, Major-General Idris Alkali, recovered from an abandoned well in Guchwet village, Shen district of Plateau’s Jos South Local Government Area is still at the Army hospital, the 3 Armoured Division, Maxwell Khobe cantonment, said yesterday.

Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Kayode Ogunsanya told Daily Trust that Alkali’s remains had been deposited at the 3 Division Medical Hospital and Services and was awaiting further directives from the Army Headquarters.

Col. Ogunsanya said he could not speak on the burial arrangement as the Division was still awaiting directives.

In a statement, he, however, said one of the suspects on the wanted list for the murder of the general, who also participated in the relocation of the corps from the shallow after being “confronted with undeniable facts” had during interrogation confessed and agreed to lead the troops and Nigerian Police to where the remains of the senior office was dumped.

“Based on this credible information, cordon and search operation was planned to one of the abandoned wells located at Guchwet Village, in conjunction with the Nigerian Police and Fire Service,” he said.

Also, the Plateau State Police Command yesterday urged the two remaining suspects on the wanted list to make themselves available for questioning.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tyopev Terna told Daily Trust that the District Head of Dura-Du, Yakubu Rap, was the first to make himself available to the police on Friday. He was later followed by three others who submitted themselves for questioning on the same day.

DSP Terna stated that two others had reported to the Police on Monday and urged the remaining two to also cooperate with the investigation.

Attempts yesterday to get comments of the Army Headquarters on the burial arrangements for late General Alkali were unsuccessful.

Army spokesman, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, did not respond to phone calls and A text message sent to him by Daily Trust.
